Aptly named for its rainbow-coloured sand cliffs, Rainbow Beach is a relaxed village resting on the northernmost tip of the Great Sandy National Park (Cooloola).The town overlooks a pretty beach which until 1976 was home to a large sand mining industry, and looks north toward Fraser Island.The beach is home to a large propeller, a remnant from the ill-fated Cherry Venture, which now rests on Teewah Beach to the south.There are a number of walking trails around the area, and it is well worth a visit to the coloured sand cliffs and the Carlo Sand Blow.The Rainbow Beach area is very popular for hang gliding, paragliding and fishing.
